Punjabi Aloo Wadi (Moong Dal Nuggets with Potato )


Aloo Wadi/Vadi is a popular punjabi dish made from Potaoes and Dal Wadi . Dal Wadi are Nuggets of Moong Dal , Chana Dal or Urad Dal mixed with spices. It’s everyone favorite in Punjab and usually accompanied with Chapati , Naan or Paratha. This is a simple yet flavorful curry which I often prepare at my place. The spices gives a wonderful aroma and color to the curry. So let’s start the recipe .yum

Ingredients
1 cup moong dal Vadi(Split Green gram nuggets)

2 potatoes, sliced
2 onions, grated
6 garlic cloves, minced
2 teaspoon ginger, grated
2 tomatoes, chopped
4 green chillies, chopped
1/4 cup coriander leaves, chopped
1 teaspoon cumin seeds
Spices
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
2 teaspoon kasori methi
2 teaspoon coriander powder
1 teaspoon garam masala
Salt to taste
1 teaspoon red chilly powder
1 teaspoon Kashmiri masala

4 tablespoon vegetable oil
Water as required

Method:
Heat oil in a pressure cooker. Fry the dal vadis and keep aside. Add asafetida and cumin seeds.

Add kasori methi garlic and ginger. Sauté for 2-3 minutes and add onion .

Add fried vadi’s and stir in for 5 minutes.

Now add the potatoes, mix well and sauté on low heat for 5 minutes.

Add all the spices and salt. Mix well.

Ad chopped tomatoes and chillies and cook till oil comes out from the edges.

Now add 4-6 cups of water. Cover the lid and cook it for 3-4 whistles.

Open the lid and garnish coriander leaves.

Serve it hot with chapati, phulka or naan.

Serve-3 Cooking time- 40 minutes.

Note : Likewise you may prepare all type of Vadi’s.

    • Hey Dimple , you can find this masala in the form of dried tikki in various shops in Jammu and Kashmir. It’s a blend of spices , herbs and aromatics and gives a wonderful taste in any curry just like you eat in restaurants there. Whenever we go to Vaishno Devi Yatra , I bought few packets and use as required..
